At Archway Carpets, Darrell Smith, along with his father, Graham Smith, has been helping people find their very own flooring luxury for over 35 years. You can imagine their knowledge is considerable given the many years spent working with the many options available. It begs the question then, given their expertise on the subject, what carpets and flooring did they choose for their own homes? In our latest blog, we speak to Darrell about his flooring choices for his home here in Suffolk.
Darrell lives with his wife and two boys in a three-bedroom house in Ipswich. In 2019, they decided to refurbish, resulting in a change of flooring for the kitchen, lounge and stairs. Watch the Carpet Guy video here:

The Kitchen
Starting with the kitchen, and for practical reasons, Darrell and his wife opted for vinyl for its long-lasting, low maintenance and waterproof qualities. They decided on Baroque Lisbon (pictured) by Lifestyle Floors accompanied by an Unnatural Flooring rug (New England Boston with black binding) who make natural-looking synthetic rugs and carpets – both of which can accommodate muddy boots and the odd spill without much consternation.

The Lounge
Moving into the lounge, the vinyl continues, albeit in a very different finish to that in the kitchen. Darrell was looking for a wood look without the expense and commitment of putting down a wood floor. Instead, he and his wife decided on wood vinyl from Archway Carpets vinyl range with a Crucial Trading bespoke rug where you can choose the material, edging and sizing to match your space. Crucial only use natural products like wool (pictured), sisal, and seagrass for their coverings, bringing added warmth and colour to a room.

Hallway & Stairs Carpet
With striped carpet being ideal for stairs, Darrell chose Brockway Carpet's Dimension Heather stripe (Devon) with its soft greys and raspberry and black accents. Darrell then decided on another Brockway carpet from the Dimensions range, this time in solid slate grey, a colour pulled from the grey stripe in the stairs carpet.
